Danish instructors “Just Joan” & Per “Rock” will be teaching a St. Louis Shag taster at this years CPH:LX.
“Just Joan” alias Joan Osted Thomsen started dancing Lindy Hop in 2005 and has taught Lindy Hop, Jazz, Charleston, Shag, Aerials and Show Teams for the last 8 years. Her background is ballet, modern dance, tap, salsa and musical performances and what drives her is to pass on the authentic swing dances styles, to perform and drive performance projects and to explore teaching methods for better body understanding. Per “Rock” is the one that brought Lindy Hop to Denmark almost 20 years ago. His background prior to this is 10 years as a Boogie Woogie dancer, where he gained lots of success in competitions. Per “Rock” started his career with Saturday Night and John Travolta dances and moved on to Grease (Jitterbug). Per is today the most knowledgeable person in Denmark within swing dance history and he dances all swing dances from the last century and onwards. You meet Per “Rock” in movies and broadcasts and around Denmark giving lectures and teaching swing dances. His is very keen on executing the dances as close to the original style as possible.
Together Per “Rock” and Just Joan brought Shag dance to Denmark 4 years ago. They dance both Collegiate Shag and St. Louis Shag. Besides performing and teaching together, one of their greatest achievements was their performance in 2013 on National Television in the Danish edition of “Dancing With The Stars”:
