About the Copenhagen Lindy Exchange

The Copenhagen Lindy Exchange is an international dance event that celebrates the African American art forms of swing dance and jazz music. At the exchange, dancers and musicians coming from different parts of the world join forces to collaborate, share knowledge, and create. The event is built upon a set of values and policies that reflect the organizers’ commitment to community building, cultural responsibility, international collaboration, and appreciation for the art of swing dance in a safe and respectful environment.

A strong community built by volunteers

Community building is an essential part of the Copenhagen Lindy Exchange. We wish to raise awareness of the importance of community and show that it is possible to achieve a successful event where everyone contributes. By getting people involved and by working together, we fundamentally believe we can create a vibrant community that supports swing dance and Jazz music. As a volunteer-run event, participants are encouraged to have an active role at the exchange. Being an active member of a community means everything from participating in organizing, planning and executing the event, to being an active participant during the event itself.

Collaboration improves creativity

International collaboration is a core value of the Copenhagen Lindy Exchange. The event brings together dancers and musicians from different parts of the world, and strives to create a platform for cultural exchange and collaboration. We believe that this collaboration is essential to the growth and development of the dance form. By sharing knowledge and skills, dancers and musicians can improve their craft and create new ideas that unlock their creativity and individuality, while honoring the roots and history of the art forms.

This year we have made a specific effort to hire some amazing jazz musicians that we don’t often or ever get to hear at dance events, but who are nothing short of excellent and who are experts in the dialect of swing. We have combined some of Copenhagen’s finest talent with great musicians from abroad to create new, swinging ensembles.

The safety team

To ensure that the Copenhagen Lindy Exchange is a safe and respectful environment for all participants, we have formulated a code of conduct that reflects the values and policies of the event. It promotes values such as inclusivity, respect, and consent, and outlines the consequences of any violations. Furthermore, during the event itself, a safety team will be available to serve as the first point of contact for participants, to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable time at the exchange.
